Christmas Characters: The Wisemen

One of the most famous parts of the Christmas story is about the wisemen that came from an Eastern country to worship the newborn king, Jesus.

Way back in history, the people of Israel were taken captive by the armies of Babylon. Many of their finest young men were taken to the land of Babylon and were trained to be great leaders and thinkers. Some of their names were Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

Some think that the "wisemen" who came to worship Jesus were people who followed years after these men. They were smart. They were educated. They knew many things that other normal people did not know. They also knew about God's promises to the people of Israel. They knew that when the star appeared, that it was a sign in the sky that the new King had been born that would save the people of Israel.

You can read more about the wisemen in Matthew 2:1-16 & 19-21.

They traveled a long way to worship Jesus. They brought him gifts. They used their riches to bless Joseph, Mary and Jesus.

During this Christmas season, let's choose to be a blessing to others too!

Merry Christmas!
